All other rights are reserved. The optical feedback dynamics of two multimode InAs/GaAs quantum dot lasers emitting exclusively on sole ground or excited lasing states is investigated. The transition from long- to short-delay regimes is analyzed, while the boundaries associated to the birth of periodic and chaotic oscillations are unveiled to be a function of the external cavity length. The results show that depending on the initial lasing state, different routes to chaos are observed. These results are of importance for the development of isolator-free transmitters in short-reach networks

Machine Learning Inspired Energy-Efficient Hybrid Precoding for MmWave Massive MIMO Systems

Hybrid precoding is a promising technique for mmWave massive MIMO systems, as it can considerably reduce the number of required radio-frequency (RF) chains without obvious performance loss. However, most of the existing hybrid precoding schemes require a complicated phase shifter network, which still involves high energy consumption. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient hybrid precoding architecture, where the analog part is realized by a small number of switches and inverters instead of a large number of high-resolution phase shifters. Our analysis proves that the performance gap between the proposed hybrid precoding architecture and the traditional one is small and keeps constant when the number of antennas goes to infinity. Then, inspired by the cross-entropy (CE) optimization developed in machine learning, we propose an adaptive CE (ACE)-based hybrid precoding scheme for this new architecture. It aims to adaptively update the probability distributions of the elements in hybrid precoder by minimizing the CE, which can generate a solution close to the optimal one with a sufficiently high probability. Simulation results verify that our scheme can achieve the near-optimal sum-rate performance and much higher energy efficiency than traditional schemes.Comment: This paper has been accepted by IEEE ICC 2017. The first 6a-thiathiophthen metal complex was prepared by treating M(CO_)5[PPh_2CS_2CH_2C≡CH] with a catalytic amount of secondary amine or tertiary amine; the structure of the 6a-thiathiophthen molybdenum complex is confirmed by an X-ray diffraction analysis

Further Empirical Examination of an Improved Sales Comparison Approach

Despite the significant advances in applying regression analysis into property valuation, the main features of the sales comparison approach lack thorough research. A series of works have endeavoured to retain the essence of the sales comparison approach, while at the same time take advantage of regressions to derive not only the implicit values of property attributes, but also the degree of similarity between properties. Despite these improvements, the determination of the best regression forms and the piecemeal-type of price adjustment remain vexing problems. The nearest neighbours method assumes that the effects of all attribute differences between the subject and comparable properties are captured by the Mahalanobis distance. The indicated market value of the subject property is simply a weighted average of the actual selling prices of the comparable properties. This method sidesteps the above vexing difficulties and seems worth employing. The present study extends the application of the nearest neighbours method to high-density residential properties, which have not previously been examined. In terms of both the average and coefficient of variations for prediction errors, neither the conventional regression nor the nearest neighbours method outperforms the other. Nevertheless, the distribution of the accumulated prediction errors suggests that the nearest neighbours method is superior over the regression analysis approach. Our empirical findings are, therefore, in favour of further pursuit along the small sample (comparables) methods
